What does a regenerative community look like?
Robert-- This is a community driven project
We can participate in various projects
Began 6 yrs. ago, learning about permaculture
Was concerned with the direction that our world was going it
Permaculture at first did not resonate because of anger but then I started seeing that this can help
Ismael: Can set up Lowbrow show for permaculture, Friday, November 29
Jazmin- Studied Agricultural Biology at NMSU, learned about GMOs from labs and fields.
See what your actions do to the world
Justin- interested in learning about permaculture for health and personal improvement
Gaby-- second time here, half kidding half serious about moving into the woods. But has decided to help the community she is already part of.
Britney- learn take what learn and use it in my community especially for people in apartments
Darlina- to teach women to love themselves accept their bodies and give back to their community. People are more profitable when they don’t like themselves.
Ruby- We live in a busy society that is not so conscious, having higher consciousness teaches people to think of nature more, connecting to the earth relieves stress, we can help people get more connected. We should get a bit more organized, have set goals and steps
Believe in transforming our community and our culture instead of running away.
Emily- make people aware of helping each other and not just think of themselves, teach each other to better community
Christ—has lived in the woods, from marketing people are drawn to organics because they want to fix the world outside and the world inside, inside first
Influence people to see the good in themselves and that fighting is useless
Caesar- first meeting first exposed to permaculture over 10 yrs. ago when it was not an accepted thing. I felt so much in the world needs to be overtaken and with permaculture it is not a question of what is wrong, it is a solution, vital to existence in the desert. The feeling of running to the woods is escapism. We need culture and community togetherness. Only is this a good idea, it is vital
Esteban—can relate to everyone else, here to learn and support, be behind it
Tim- trying to figure out what was wrong with the world, got permaculture certificate, and has used it in his own house. Is starting a permaculture business, desertsalive.com
Chris bevins—runs glasbox, wants to practice and learn, supports anything that supports the community. Interested in Aquaponic and networking, reaching out with technical skills to work with his ideas. What is a methodological approach instead of just another network run by everyone, open source approach?
Virgil—2 year of learning permaculture, regenerative community sharing information and making it better than it was before.
Javier—introduced to learning about organic farming, we can grow pretty much anything even in the desert, we can take on tasks as individuals but we can all share knowledge instead of doing it on our own, we all have good ideas and we can get a lot done
Marlene- heartwarming that this group exists to help the community, it will have a ripple effect, looking to take something and learn from it
Mando—standup comedian, last 2 years, orgone energy, orgonite, heard about permaculture 2.5 yrs. ago and saw effect of orgone on plant life. Orgonite can be used as a tool to add extra energy to the garden, people have seen positive results. Other projects include bringing the desert to life, figured out how to make it rain with cloud buster, bringing awareness to alternative energy. It helps dreaming, and orgonite El Paso
Asia- has an interest in learning and passing on info learning more about permaculture it is a way of life. A rabbit hole because there is so much you can learn from or focus on; we all have something to bring in to this
James: I identify with a lot of you, corporate work cares more about business, impressed about all the knowledge, the main point is the community aspect, growing the city. Other group’s talk about destructive ideas, here people have similar ideas incorporating creating music and art and developing downtown. Has family that farm and are bullied by Monsanto, new perspective on how dangerous some of the things we are putting into our body are, after tasting food from gardens, other foods make me feel like I am poisoning myself, eating butter feels like smoking cigarettes. Art, music lifestyle and do something positive and not just looking for negative things to fight
Rick—grateful to be here, last time mentioned he was thankful but remarked that there are only two people around his age, he analyzed this and saw that people that are close to his age are working, retired are elderly, people that have not started working are the youth. We are planting a seed.
Permaculture: Business, design, volunteers; we need to find more volunteers. Make a presentation, go to assisted living centers, make a meeting with elderly, explain permaculture we can pick them up and take them to activities. Seeing what they are interested in so they interact
Go to youth find youth programs that are interacting with elderly. People that are not working young and old can be united to grow plants
3 presenters can go to one place we could go present on one Sunday at 6 assisted living centers, my life comrades are still working (people in his age group), and I’m free. We are all here because we think alike and all care, we can organize it and expand.
3 people to run business, 3 people to direct the 3 forces of the design 3 leaders for the volunteers
Bring the elderly they can grow seedlings
Sales door to door 1000 no’s bring you that much closer to yes
Brenda- first time here, grad student and school teacher focus on eco art, to learn about permaculture- reason it is important to come back to sustainability is that we are disconnected from nature and where food comes from, the disconnection gets us sick and affects everything. We don’t have the sense of community we did with tribes or local farmers, mass agriculture makes us more disconnected
Interested in living off the grid tried it, found was not ready
Interested in greening the desert, important for sustainability
Bring back moisture, create water retention spaces success had been seen in Jordan, parts of Portugal, river completely dried, water retention space, areas conducive for when it rains, takes years but makes a natural hydrological system. Interested in cloud buster.
Also in friends of Rio Bosque in El Paso wetlands dried in 1930 after the river was channeled over 300 acres
UTEP natural resource management takes care of it
Wetlands are essential to the balance of climate because it prevents drought and flash floods, bring balance back to the river valley
Nick—in design course with Rob wants to care for people, earth and share abundance, the core of permaculture interested in a functional network. Tucson a monetary system they created and functioned for 3 yrs., make permabucks. Can make your own money and own bargaining system
Interested in helping in building a network
Carlo working in non-profit that works with elderly they can help with seedling, elderly and child can get together to take care of seed.
Either they work together or they do it separate. The current ten years old will take effect when they are 20
Glasbox- natural light, turn into food, six people are here to donate for trees, valley y food foundation, food bank, food pantry 400 families or umbrella non profit in the lower valley… want to have a seed bank there and also in La Fe, Glasbox, spread-out without seeds we cannot have a sustainable culture
Valuing seeds, don’t throw them away, harvest, dry them, store them. Can create a coop seed bank
Lower valley project, waiting on funding 15,000, a check that will be written to our group for establishing their site/ our site. Aquaponics, chickens goats water retention system
Middle of November
Water retention ideas: there are many places in El Paso, where Ruby lives there is a lagoon, bigger than a block. We should ask if we could use it to grow food. A natural deposit and ask the city
Tamara organization in Portugal: full community all devoted to creating water retention. Seth poltzer helped
Greywater systems are fine here
What is needed for aquaponics? Where do we fit in in each project?
The labor, effort is in the setup. Need equipment, fish plants, and then just monitor it.
Have not done it so far because there has not been a handful of people that can make sure the system is calibrated. Felix from pi aquaponics brought a previously working system that he wants to rebuild here, we have physical parts in place. Need people to take a timeslot to take measurements and make sure everything is going smoothly
Felix can come give a workshop.
After Monsanto march, if we meet at a park with healthy food and workshops at the park 2 times a month and collaborate, show people outside if people see it and get curious, they may join
Have workshops every week for 3 weeks and 4th week have a celebration
Has seen the group get larger, there is a ton of knowledge
Organization takes time in El Paso, to get away from corporate need, how in touch are you with permaculture groups in other cities
Interface about once every 3 months, this will keep growing and get stronger and get solidified groups that have the same goals in various cities are working on the same thing, if we network with people around the country, a large group of people can become very independent.
Meeting once a week, have an hour class every Sunday. Tired of the monetary thing, willing to do work exchange, can exchange education for work
What thing you want to learn about some want the basics, some want soil building.
Compost tea, vermiculture, soil building,
For workshops: Sunday, we have these on Sunday but maybe every other Sunday
Can have workshops in between them
Trading: gift economy- not just ill give you this notebook for a pen you don’t have to get an exchange in that direct moment
If someone needs help cleaning their back yard they can offer to gift each other what they need and having that consciousness. Did not find a website on what person has what resource… a network web site of who can share what
Some people just want to do what people need for the sake of helping; Darlina drove by and then sat in at Caruzzo permaculture workshops then became more involved
People can give hated money in a positive direction
It would be good for people that don’t know anything and just want to help. Overscheduling can be an issue because people start to feel bad that they cannot be at everything. The permaculture event was very good for how to give back to the community
Darlina accidentally stumbled upon the group at the park
We can condense workshops for once a month
Gathering and communication is very important
If every person brings one thing we can have a party. \\marketing and getting it out there What's Up Weekly puts events on there. Developing a website where people can see events.
Formal meeting on the same day as the committee meetings
Web based portal that links web sites that links to other web sites and a physical calendar of events at loft light, san Carlos, glasbox, phone trees.
On calendar mimco symbol. Not one idea will fix everything
Sewn sympathetic organizations in a usable format
Make events that people want to come for various reasons
Get a person that makes events have
Entertain, growing food, have days for different reasons
People should not be coerced
Anyone interested in the project, need money,
System in mind $2,500, can set up a show to make that money
Making community presence and fundraising, can vend gmo free organic food
People can cook food and sell it at the show, food from a garden
Gmo march: selling t-shirts brought in more money than expected
Successful fundraising for the Glasbox by calling friends, offer memberships
Should have a list of thing to do, some people have a marketable degree of education
Have an informal permaculture institute
There are videographers in this building, can make a YouTube channel
Kickstarter or grant writing
Kickstarter—tax code allows gifts up to 11,000 dollars
The person giving the gifts can only
Event committee can meet after and think of steps to get this done
And plan an event after that event to promote a call to action
Thanksgiving is coming, can have gift circles
Bring awareness to other food that can be made for thanksgiving
Should plan the show and after day like a workshop date at the park
Museum of history allows classes and teaching for free
Wednesday La Fe, marking out the contour of the land 9:00 am 615 Father Rahm

For La Fe project
Structure: membership based, action driven
Are there legal ramifications for?
Need to plan the fundraiser
Mailing list for the group
